Liquid tempera in black, red and white, as thick as possible if mixed by the teacher.
OBJECTIVE:
Students will represent space phenomenon in assorted paint media.
PROCEDURE:
Spray bottles of dye or paint are used to apply the first paint layer.
This layer will be visible as the planets or stars that show through the piece.
A fine spray directed to specific areas of the paper gives the best results.
Colors can be varied in this step. Any assortment if colors is acceptable with
reds, oranges, blues and greens showing most vividly.
After spraying the first layer of paint, allow to dry sufficiently before proceeding to next step. Student arranges the round shapes (lids, paper plates, etc.) on sprayed layer. With younger students, the arrangement of round shapes on the first pint layer provides excellent opportunity for knowledge assessment of planet order, star composition, etc. After the round shapes are arranged, art is sprayed with a solid layer of black spray paint. The spray paint requires time to completely dry.
With the round shapes still covering the art, white spry paint is sprayed up into the air over the art and allowed to "rain" down on the art to create the illusion of stars. To create illusion of comets, yellow and white spray paint cans are pushed directly into the paper. Solar wind is created by squeezing black, white, and red tempera paint onto art work and combed with fingers or other object.
To finish, the art can be mounted on construction or no-fade paper, or matted. If art is not laminated, it is best sealed with acrylic spray.
