Marslink Education Kits

The Planetary Society produced three Marslink Education Kits between Spring 1993 and Fall 1994. The kits were to be part of a series that would bring Mars Observer data to the classroom. The three kits produced use data from the Viking, Mariner, and Phobos missions. They teach basic math and science concepts while using Real Data and data products from these past Mars missions. Marslink will continue into the future, but the form that this program will take is still being planned as of Summer 1994.

The Planetary Society has also developed educational packets on other planets, and they have a catalog through which you can purchase a variety of Mars books, videos, and slides.

The MarsLink Kits are geared toward the Middle School level, with suggestions for adaptation to Elementary and High School classes. The themes of kits produced are:

  1. Temperature, Seasons, and Storms (February 1993)
  2. Topography (February 1994)
  3. Craters and Volcanoes (coming, September 1994)
