- Sept. 3: 20th Anniv. of Viking 2 Landing, Utopia Planitia, Mars.
OCTOBER 1996
- Oct. 15: Pre-launch Press Briefing for Mars Global Surveyor and
Mars Pathfinder (tentative date) on NASA-TV.
- Oct. 17-19: NSTA Regional Convention in Phoenix, AZ. Features "Mars Central,"
a dedicated series of space science workshops. Also there is a tour of
ASU space laboratories and a field trip in northern Arizona, "The Holey Tour,"
by ASU planetary geology professor Ronald Greeley. Arizona Mars K-12
director Ken Edgett is keynote speaker at Arizona Science Teachers Assoc.

- Oct. 21-26: Division of Planetary Science (DPS), American Astronomical
Society Meeting in Tucson, AZ. The DPS meeting features technical
sessions on all the latest in planetary science-- including new results
from Galileo at Jupiter! They are also planning K-12 workshops
on Oct. 21 and 22, visits by scientists to Tucson classrooms, and a
big public display of planetary spacecraft and images. For K-12

NOVEMBER 1996
- Nov. 1-2: Washington Science Teachers Association Convention, Port Angeles, WA.
The Arizona Mars K-12 Education Program will conduct a workshop. Contact

- Nov. 6-25: Mars Global Surveyor Launch Window. Launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
There will be an open-house at Arizona State University MGS TES facility.

- Nov. 11-22: Mars '96 Launch Window. Optimal launch date is Nov. 16, from
Baikonur, Kazakhstan.
