ASU on Mars!

Congratulations to our colleagues Ron Greeley, Rob Sullivan, Greg Wilson, and the ASU Physics Machine Shop, for the successful Wind Sock Experiment on-board Mars Pathfinder. It is a thrill to see these three wind socks, manufactured on the ASU Main Campus in Tempe, AZ, now sitting on the Red Planet! The wind socks are designed to observe the profile of wind speed and direction over the course of the mission. The wind socks are examined by taking images of them with the IMP imager, which was manufactured by Peter Smith's team at the University of Arizona. The two Arizona universities have a tough rivalry on the football field, but in space they are working together to explore Mars, the Solar System, and the Universe.
